Ithaca Beer Launches Super Stout as a Year Round Brand in 2016

Ithaca, NY - December 17, 2015 - Back by popular demand, Ithaca Beer Company is launching Super Stout as a full year brand in package and draft in January 2016. First released in early 2015, Super Stout was well received by coffee lovers and craft beer drinkers alike.

Super Stout is brewed with a specially developed blend of high quality Arabica coffee beans sourced from a small batch coffee roaster and does not use extracts or commodity grade coffees. In a collaboration between Ithaca Beer Co. and Ithaca based coffee roaster Gimme! Coffee, a variety of unique roasts and blends were developed in order to meet a specific taste and aroma profile for this very special release. Gimme! Coffee was selected by Roast Magazine as their 2013 Coffee Roaster of the Year.

Just like a perfectly brewed cup of coffee, Super Stout is remarkably balanced, with no single flavor overpowering another. The chocolate essence of dark roasted malt, the creaminess of oats and a mellow hop blend are all complemented by the fruity wine and cocoa characteristics of Gimme! Coffee's select roast.

Super Stout will be available in 12 oz. bottle 4/6 packs and draft throughout Ithaca Beer’s Northeastern distribution network. With a mild 5.2% abv, Super Stout is an Oatmeal Stout brewed with Two Row Pale, Crystal, Chocolate, Midnight Wheat malts, Roasted Barley and Oats and hopped with East Kent Goldings and Challenger varieties.

To launch Super Stout, Ithaca Beer will host several “Super Brunches” in key markets. In addition to Super Stout paired brunch dishes, the Super Brunches will feature beer cocktails including Apricot Wheat Ale Mimosas, Daydreamer Kölsch Margaritas and Bloody Zillas – Bloody Mary’s made with Cascazilla Red IPA.

“The Spirit of the Finger Lakes”, Ithaca Beer Co. was founded in 1998 by Dan Mitchell and is New York State’s 6th largest craft brewery. Ithaca Beer Co.’s brands are distributed in 8 states plus Washington, DC and has a popular farm to table brewpub at its growing brewery in Ithaca, New York. Ithaca Beer brewed 24,000 barrels of beer in 2014 and began its second expansion this summer to accommodate its continued growth.

Ithaca Beer Co. Packaging Redesign Signals Expansion of a New Era

Ithaca, N.Y. – February 12, 2015 – Growing New York State craft brewer Ithaca Beer Co. completed a thorough packaging redesign with the January release of its Spring seasonal Daydreamer Kölsch. The redesign was applied to all of Ithaca Beer Co.’s core and seasonal 6 pack brands and features a livelier, more energetic and fun look with vibrant colors and subtle graphic accents. The graphic style of each package emphasizes individual brands while streamlining the umbrella Ithaca Beer Co. brand identity for a cleaner, more identifiable look in an ever crowded retail environment.

While the design of the labels and 6 packs has changed, the outstanding ales in the bottles have not changed a bit. Ithaca Beer Co. brewers strive to maintain and improve the high quality standards that have garnered their beers high accolades by loyal customers as well as popular online beer rating services Beer Advocate and Rate Beer. Flower Power has been consistently ranked as the top India Pale Ale in New York State by Beer Advocate.

Ithaca Beer Co.’s package redesign signals an even larger transition for the 16 year old brewery. This winter, the 5th largest craft brewery in New York State broke ground on a 24,000 square foot expansion at its 5 year old facility located at the southern end of Ithaca. The expansion is largely designed to accommodate Ithaca Beer Co.’s continued double digit growth. Ithaca Beer Co.’s production grew by 39% in 2014 to roughly 24,000 barrels. A barrel is 31.5 gallons and is the equivalent of two half kegs of beer. The brewery anticipates an additional 25% growth in 2015 – a rate that outpaces the national average of 18% according to the Brewers Association.

The majority of the Ithaca Beer Co.’s expansion will focus on added fermentation, conditioning and packaging equipment to accommodate the brewery’s growing production demands. The expansion will also include doubling the size of its farm-to-table Taproom restaurant kitchen, a barrel aging room and more office space. Completion of the project is targeted for late 2015.

Ithaca Beer was founded in 1998 by Dan Mitchell in a retail storefront on Route 13 just south of Buttermilk Falls State Park. Ithaca Beer has grown steadily since its inception with brands including Flower Power IPA, Apricot Wheat Ale, Cascazilla Red IPA and Green Trail IPA. Mitchell built the brewery’s new facility on Ithaca Beer Drive in 2011.

Ithaca Beer Co. Releases Daydreamer American Kolsch to Kick Off Their 2015 Seasonal Program

Ithaca, N.Y. - Ithaca Beer Co. kicks off its 2015 Seasonal offerings with Ithaca Daydreamer, an American style Kolsch. Originating from Cologne (Köln), Germany, the Kölsch style was historically only brewed along the Rhine (Rhein) River and fairly light in alcohol at 4.5-5.5% abv.

Daydreamer offers the unique character of traditional German Kolsch yeast and the blend of Pilsner, 2-Row, and German malts resulting in a pleasantly fruity, bready and slightly sweet aroma. While traditional Kolsch beers are typically lower in alcohol, we punched up Daydreamer to a warming 7% a.b.v. But despite Daydreamer’s strong a.b.v. backbone, the complex blend of malts, hops and yeast provide a smooth and clean mouth feel for a clean, easy drinking experience. Daydreamer pours near clear, vibrant yellow in color and with a white fluffy head.

Head of Brewing Operations Andrew Hausman says “We wanted to make a Kolsch that stood out from the rest, but can still be identified by its traditional German heritage. There are several secrets, with the yeast being the most special. The challenge for us was working with a rare yeast from Köln that requires a high degree of skill and craftsmanship. We've been astounded by the results since day one. The unique fruity complexity is unlike anything we've ever created.”

Ithaca Daydreamer will be available on draft in bars and restaurants and in 12 oz. bottle 6 packs in stores until early Spring.

Ithaca's New Brewing Facility To Open Soon

Ithaca Beer Co. – The little brewery that could…can and will!

ITHACA, N.Y – Ithaca Beer Co. has had its hands full the last eight months, and some of you noticed. Now there is some light at the end of the tunnel. While Ithaca Beer is limited on store shelves and the IBC Tasting Room recently closed at the old brewery, in just a couple weeks, not only will IBC open doors to a new brewery, beer garden and taproom, but also IBC will ship to market lots of craft beer brewed on IBC’s new brewing system, including a brand new summer-come-autumn seasonal pumpkin ale, Country Pumpkin.

Dan Mitchell, owner of IBC broke ground for the new brewery over one year ago on August 26, 2011, and now, he is wrapping up final work on the taproom and beer garden in order to open doors to the public once again. “We were hoping to open sometime in May this year, but the building process took much longer than we thought. A few months back, I was deeply worried about how we were going to put all the pieces of this new place together, but now, the brewery has truly taken shape, and things are back on track. The beer garden already looks amazing!” The taproom and beer garden will open in mid-September selling pints of beer, flights of beer, and limited small plates of food items until the full kitchen opens later in October, at which point, the taproom will offer a full menu that features gourmet wood-fired pizzas made from locally sourced ingredients. The taproom will also sell packaged beer and apparel as well as offer weekend brewery tours when the doors open in mid-September.

When Mitchell set about building the new brewery, one of his goals was to seamlessly transition from brewing on the old, beyond-capacity brewing system to brewing on a brand new, state-of-the-art brewing system, which has twice the brewing capacity of the old one. “We wanted to keep the beer flowing throughout this whole process. We wanted to close the doors on the old place one day, and open doors to the new place the very next, but as we got further along and beer demand kept going up, we realized there was no feasible way to move tanks and brew beer to meet demand,” at least without having to buy all new tanks for the new place, which was unfeasible.

Many customers have noticed a shortage of Ithaca Beer on store shelves, at bars, and at restaurants, but Mitchell hopes these customers will be relieved to hear that a whole lot of beer is about to ship out, including a brand new seasonal ale called Country Pumpkin – Ale brewed with Pumpkin and Spices, and Outdoor Ale – our very limited, fresh-hopped seasonal ale. Country Pumpkin will be available in bottle and draft. Outdoor will be available in draft only. Customers will also see a return of all their favorite beers in the market very soon.

“Our new system is already brewing more beer and better quality beer than we have ever brewed before.” Cult followers of Flower Power – India Pale Ale may find relief in knowing a whole lot of Flower Power has been brewed and fermenting in tanks. In the coming week, it will be bottled and shipped out.

“This has been an overwhelming growth step for us.” says Mitchell, “Huge, in fact, but now, things are looking up. It’s getting exciting!” IBC will announce the new brewery opening on its website soon. Check www.ithacabeer.com for updates.

Peekskill Brewery Snags Top Brewer

Peekskill Brewery Teams up with Award Winning Brewmaster Jeff O’Neil

Peekskill, NY- The Peekskill Brewery is pleased to officially announce Jeff O’Neil as their Brewmaster effective November 1, 2011. He recently announced his departure from Ithaca Beer Co. after nine years. O’Neil is a multiple award-winning brewer who most recently received a silver medal at the 2011 Great American Beer Festival. Under his direction in 2008, Ithaca Beer Co. received the honor of the F.X. Matt Cup as New York State’s Best Brewery.

“Chief” is a graduate of the Siebel Institute of Technology in Chicago, IL, a member of the Institute of Brewing and Distilling in London, England and the Vice President of the Master Brewers Association of America- District Western New York. He began his brewing career in the 90s in the San Francisco Bay Area at the 20 Tank Brewery, Gordon Biersch, Jupiter Brewing and Drake’s Brewing, before moving to Ithaca Beer Co. in the Finger Lakes region of New York in 2002.

On his decision to leave Ithaca he says, “I’m moving away from a bigger production model for this awesome opportunity to get really creative and have an intimate connection with those drinking the beer. This is a smaller project but it’s still accessible because of the close proximity to New York City. I’m thrilled for the chance to work with the Berardis and Chef Sean Corcoran, and everyone should expect amazing things to come from Peekskill from here on out. As my idol Steve Martin once said, ‘Let’s get small.’”

O’Neil’s style complements Peekskill Brewery’s mission to bring hand crafted American beer and innovative pub food to the Hudson Valley region. “Having one of the most talented brewers in the country join our team is beyond exciting. Jeff’s skills and experience will further our journey in being a culinary destination and ultimately the premier brewpub on the East Coast,” said Peekskill Brewery owner Keith Berardi.

The Ithaca Brew Fest has helped bring back the Big Pavilion in Stewart Park already, and will continue to work on similar projects inside the park. That Brew Fest takes place in Stewart Park is no coincidence...it's an opportunity for Ithaca to show off the incredible beauty of the Finger Lakes region, showcase their unique culture, and demonstrate why it's so important for the next generation of Ithacans to have a clean, safe, and active park within the community.

Safe and responsible drinking is definitely a top priority at Brew fest. Sponsored by the Ithaca Ale House, TCAT will provide free rides between downtown Ithaca and Stewart Park to Brew Fest Ticket Holders. Taxis will also be available, if a shuttle does not suit you. The Ithaca Brew Fest strongly encourages its attendees to utilize the free shuttle service and taxis, rather than drive at all! Park in the Green St. or Seneca St. parking lot and pick up bus route 13 to Stewart Park. At the end of the night, ride back to the Commons and grab a bite to eat or a pint of beer at one of the many establishments like the Ithaca Ale House downtown!

General Admission and VIP Tickets for the Brew Fest are on sale now at the Ithaca Beer Company, the Ithaca Coffee Company, all Wegman’s grocery stores, and online through the Brew Fest website: www.ithacabrewfest.com. General Admission tickets are $40 in advance--$50 at the door. VIP tickets are available for $85 and can only be purchased prior to the event. Remember, the Ithaca Brew Fest is a non-smoking event. How better to end the summer than one big celebration with great beer, food, music, and unforgettable times in Ithaca, NY!

New York, NY -  The 4th Annual NY Craft Beer Week rounds up the state's premiere breweries, local celebrity chefs, over 100 beer destinations and 30 renowned restaurants across the City for an amazing line-up of special events happening in all five boroughs from Friday, September 16 - Sunday, September 25, 2011. Celebrated events such as the 4th Annual Freaktoberfest Boutique Beer & Music Festival, Get Real's All-American Craft Beer & Food Festival, and Brewer's Choice will return as part of this year's Beer Week. The week will also feature newly conceived boutique events, specialty food and beer pairing menus, educational tastings and tours, and the release of the official beer of the Week: Geektoberfest. Brewed by Shmaltz Brewing, Captain Lawrence Brewing, and Ithaca Beer Co., Geektoberfest includes a special blend of six barrel-aged beers, and will be available on draft at select Beer Week events and participating craft beer bars across New York City.

New York City beer enthusiasts and foodies alike will have the opportunity to enjoy over 100 craft beer destinations with the much-anticipated NYC Beer Passport 2011, the official NY Craft Beer Week program and resource guide. Passports are $10, and patrons will receive promotional deals and discounts on selections from their favorite craft breweries at participating venues. Each venue will feature one specific brewery, and instead of paying $7 per glass of beer, it's only $3 for the same beer through the Passport program (Passports have an offer for one serving at each bar). A majority of the bars will also offer a one-time $2 off a NY State produced beer through Labor Day 2012 to extend the Passport's value for those consumers unable to visit every bar during the Beer Week (offers may vary). Passports will be available for purchase at www.nycbeerweek.com, at each participating venue, a handful of retail outlets including the Strand Bookstore and others TBA, and in a new digital format as iPhone and Droid apps.

Passports include a calendar of all the featured events with a detailed description of each event, special editorial sections written by influential beer writers and industry insiders, FAQ's about NY Craft Beer Week, a list of all the participating restaurants with Zagat's "Beer Pairing Menus," a list of all the bars and retail outlets involved with NY Craft Beer Week, and much more.

Premiering this year is the NY Craft Beer Week mobile app for the iPhone and Droid, developed by technology partner Seed Labs. Both the free and paid apps will include: instant access to all updated content on nycbeerweek.org, a dedicated page for each venue (highlighting their brewery of choice, special offers and events schedule), a GPS powered map allowing users to find venues by distance, proximity to subway stops and featured brewery along with subway and walking directions, a searchable list of beers, and Foursquare-like functionality that will allow users to compete for fame, glory and prizes by "checking in" at venues and "checking off" beers they drink while simultaneously updating their Facebook and Twitter social networks on their activity. Badges that can be earned through "checking in" range from champions of various beer styles and beers from given geographic areas to conquering the full range of participating venues in each neighborhood. The free version of the app will serve as a companion to the printed passport, while the paid version will sell for $10 and allow users to redeem all of the deals offered in the printed passport.

NY Craft Beer Week is no exception; travelers come from throughout the world just to engage with the beer community, while local consumers eagerly anticipate the special events and the arrival of new Passports. It is with great excitement that there are now more beer-centric bars, restaurants and stores participating in the Beer Week than ever before, and a new set of smart phone apps will make the offerings even more accessible to all."

Brooklyn Brewery's Brewmaster Garret Oliver says, "NYC Beer Week is a great opportunity for people to check out the creativity and talent of New York's brewers. New York City is famous for having the best of everything, and NYC Beer Week is going to show off America's most diverse and exciting beer scene."

Ithaca Brute is Tasty!

Ithaca's Brute was the runner-up in the finals of the 2nd annual Great Lakes Brewing News Global Warming Open. Ithaca's barrel-aged, sour beer lost to Michigan Brewing Company's Celis White in the finals held July 18th at the Vermont Brewers Festival, in Burlington, Vermont.

The "tournament" was judged by three "craft-beer aficionados" who sat in a hot tub and tasted both beers. The only criteria was "how refreshing is the brew on a hot day"?

Seven New York brews were entered into the field of 64, but only two made it to the second round. Brooklyn Brewery's Summer Ale knocked out fellow New Yorker Saranac Pale Pale Ale in the first round before losing in the second round. Saranac's Pomegranate Wheat, Summer Brew, Southern Tier's hop sun and Ithaca's Partly Sunny were the other four beers to lose in the first round.
The tournament had quite a New York flavor to it as the first round was took place in Bridgeport, NY on June 20th, the second round in Rochester, NY on June 27th, the third round in Buffalo, NY on July 4th, and the fourth round in Syracuse, NY on July 11th.
Congratulations to the Ithaca Beer Company!

Ithaca Double IPA

I tasted Ithaca Beer Company's Double IPA at Aroma Thyme Bistro with Chef/Owner Marcus Guiliano. I bought two four packs about 10 months ago when I heard that IBC might stop producing the beer. Here is our video blog about the beer.

Ithaca Brewing Company's 10th Anniversary

I like living in Albany. The state's capital has plenty to do and a great beer environment. I can go to one of the country's most famous beer bar in Mahars, a great beer store in Oliver's, and get great beer from breweries like Brown's and C.H. Evans Ale. There are some occasions where I wished I lived somewhere else. Today is one of those days, as I wished I lived in Ithaca.

The Ithaca Beer Company will be celebrating their tenth anniversary tonight. The brewery will be celebrating at Chapter House, Ithaca Ale House, Kilpatrick's, Korova and Pixel Lounge. The first 100 customers to order an Ithaca Beer at each bar will receive a special 10th Anniversary Ithaca Beer glass as well as being entered into theraffle which carries a grand prize of 10 cases of Ithaca Beer a year for the next 10 years!
