Brooklyn Festival Announces Beer Experience Hosted by Garrett Oliver

The Great GoogaMooga
Announces Details on The Beer Experience and

A Special Edition Beer – Googa Doc Pomus - by Brooklyn Brewery

New York, New York – The Great GoogaMooga, the food, drink and music festival coming to Brooklyn’s Prospect Park this May 19th and 20th and produced by Superfly Presents, announces details on its Beer Experience today. Making for a seriously dynamic tasting, Brewmaster Garrett Oliver of Brooklyn Brewery, one of the world’s foremost authorities on all things beer and a 2012 James Beard nominee, will be curating the experience. Riffing on the infinite pleasure that drinking outdoors to live music inspires, Mr. Oliver and the Brooklyn Brewery also collaborated with GoogaMooga to create a special edition brew – Googa Doc Pomus – which will be available for the first time at the festival.

The Beer Experience, found within the festival’s General Admission area, will take place in an ornate 120-foot long tent modeled after those found at Oktoberfest. Guests will find over 30 different domestic and foreign craft beers over the course of the weekend and will have the ability to meet and chat with makers and representatives. For those who like to raise a glass full of New York pride, there are nearly a dozen local beers to be had including those from Captain Lawrence Brewing Company, Brooklyn Brewery, Kelso of Brooklyn, Southampton Publick House, and Empire Brewing. Guests will find everything from complex dark roasts to rustic farmhouse ales from across the country like Sly Fox Brewing Company, Carton Brewing, Bear Republic Brewery, St. Somewhere, and The Bruery. There will also be a selection of offerings from across the ocean such as those by Rodenbach, Harviestoun Brewery, and Thornbridge Brewery.

Available for the first time at GoogaMooga is the limited edition Googa Doc Pomus which was created specifically for the festival by Garrett Oliver and Brooklyn Brewery. It is named for Doc Pomus, the late, great blues singer, rock and roll songwriter and Williamsburg, Brooklyn native. The draft-only Googa Doc Pomus is a 1940s-style American lager, the kind that was favored by the workers of Williamsburg and, presumably, by Doc himself. A portion of the proceeds from Googa Doc Pomus will support the work of the Rhythm & Blues Foundation, which Pomus actively supported. For over 20 years, the Foundation has provided emergency financial assistance and performance opportunities to R&B artists in need.

Unlike other beer festivals, Mr. Oliver has created the Beer Experience’s menu based on what a wide spectrum of beers engender in both flavor and feeling. Guests will be able to weave in and out of five unique experiences: The Session (tasty refreshment that goes down easy), The Darkness (the roasty and eerie world of beer’s dark side), Lupulin Shift (hoppy paradise), The Farmhouse (fruity, spicy Saison goodness) and It’s Complicated (wild, sour, complex). There will also be two hard ciders: Woodchuck Pear Hard Cider andWoodchuck Summer Hard Cider.
