Saranac 12 Beers of Winter

Saranac recently released their 12 Beers of Winter pack. Saranac releases a different 12 pack each season with each box featuring two of each of the six different beers. Saranac usually uses this mixed pack to introduce new beers and this years winter version features four new beers. The Saranac Winter Lager, Saranac Black Lager, Saranac Rye I.P.A., Saranac Big Moose Ale are all new and join the Saranac Maple Porter, Saranac Belgian Ale.

To celebrate the release of the 12 Beers of Winter, Saranac graciously invited many of the local and national beer bloggers to visit the brewery for a private tour and beer dinner, as well as putting the bloggers up in a local hotel. Yours truly was unable to attend but summaries can be found on several of the better beer blogs. The crew over at 2BeerGuys did a three part series (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3) chronicling the event. Our good friend Blake from The Brew Authority dedicated a blog post and a podcast to the dinner.

While, I did not attend the dinner, you know TheFoamingHead is the place to go for the best beer ratings, and have provided my thoughts and scores on the 12 Beers of Winter. Check back daily for more ratings.

Craft Beer and Artisanal cheese: A Perfect Partnership

Monday, November 23, 2009 at 6:30 pm

Join Artisanal Instructor Candela M. Prol for a spectacular evening! The Artisanal Premium Cheese Center is proud to host Brand Specialist Spencer Niebuhr from the award-winning Southampton Publick House. The craft beer revolution took off in the early 1980’s and has been going strong ever since. The Artisanal hand-crafted beer phenomenon has experienced an unprecedented growth in the past few years. Specialty cheeses started in the U.S. at about the same time but have expanded more slowly. American cheesemakers now offer cheeses that are every bit the equal of European cheeses and offer up the same creative, spirited approach as American brewers with craft beers. Tastes a fine selection of 5-6 cheeses from the Artisanal caves and experience the synergies between craft beer and Artisanal cheese. Don’t miss out on this special evening! $75.00 per person

Featured Beers:

Double White Ale, IPA, Pumpkin Ale, Imperial Porter, CuvĂ©e des Fleurs, and Biere de Garde ‘07

New York Craft Beer Notes

A couple of notes from the Cortland Beer Company.

- CBC has moved into a new location at 16 Court Street, Cortland, NY 13045 is our new location.

- CBC has brought on a new partner in Tom Scheffler, who is a graduate of Cornell in agricultural. Tom will be seeing over daily brewing operations.

- The Cortland Beer Company will be a 15bbl production brewery when operations being, and will have a small retail room for growlers, bottles, and merchandise to start, with expansion planed over a three year period.

- The owners Tom, Terry, and Dan will each play an intricate roll in the operations of the brewery, Tom of course will be head brewer, Terry Vestal will be head of marketing and sales, and Dan Cleary will serve as operations manger / media contact of Cortland Beer Co.

Editor's Note: There is no one who is more happy about a beer company setting up in Cortland, NY. I frequently visit my alma matter and have always had to take the trip to Ithaca for good beer. I will be in Cortland each of the next two weeks and am hoping to sit down with Tom, Terry, or Dan.
